Do you meet your compliance obligations? Would your staff, your equipment and your procedures perform in the event of an emergency?

Trainers have first-hand operational front line emergency management experience and expertise, managing real world emergencies on a day to day basis.

The Fire and Emergency Response training is designed for persons who may be required to operate First Attack Fire Fighting equipment to suppress fires in the workplace and coordinate and control response procedures and evacuations in the event of emergencies. Training includes practical use of fire fighting equipment.

Australian Standard AS3745 states that emergency training should be conducted at intervals not exceeding six months.

Theย Ergonomic Essentials: Workstation Setup/Posture and Stretching is a practical training course with a focus on correct posture and ergonomics to help prevent potential injury in the workplace. The correct posture and setup of the workstation is essential in all industries. Effective warm-up and stretching are useful pre-task to ensure the body is ready for work. Additional information relating to the high risk work licencing requirements for operation of telehanders:

A high risk work licence in the class of CN (non-slewing crane) is required for the operation of a non-slewing telehandler with a lifting capacity rating exceeding 3 tonnes when it is fitted with a boom or jib and hook block.

Where the telehandler is fitted with attachments such as a bucket or forks the PCBU has a duty of care in terms of ensuring workers have appropriate training in the operation of the plant, however a CN licence is not required.

Where the plant is fitted with a personnel box that can be extended 11m or more the operator requires an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) high risk work licence.

Further Information

This qualification does not cover you for any of the under 11 metre machines, a separate ticket(s) will be required.

If you have any questions regarding high risk work licence requirements please contact the SafeWork NSW Information Centre on 13 10 50.

If you have any questions regarding high risk work licence requirements please do not hesitate to contact the SafeWork NSW Information Centre on 13 10 50.ย

EFFECTIVE WORKPLACE COMMITTEES

EFFECTIVE WORKPLACE COMMITTEES

Home ยป Training ยป Page 4

Committee members offer their services with the expectation of assisting their organisation to solve problems and bring about improvements in the workplace. Often the best of intentions are undermined by lack of understanding about consultation processes, difficulties managing pressure from specific individuals or factions, and uncertainty about how to balance the apparently competing needs of various sections of the business. There are also challenges to be faced in working with committee members themselves, who may have vastly different perspectives and skills to oneโ€™s own.

This Effective Workplace Committees course is designed to give employees the tools to work effectively and productively as effective members of their workplace committee. It is delivered by a registered Psychologist with over 20 years of experience and may also be tailored to workplace teams.

This course can be customised to meet your specific workplace needs and is able to be delivered at IOH or on-site at your workplace. Please call to arrange a suitable training time.

DUE DILIGENCE WORKSHOP

DUE DILIGENCE WORKSHOP

Home ยป Training ยป Page 4

What Does Due Diligence Mean in Theory and in Practiceย

This is a facilitator led workshop designed for executive management teams and boards of directors to brainstorm how they are demonstrating all that is reasonably practicable to fulfill their due diligence duty.ย  The workshop addresses the six due diligence elements below, spending about 15 minutes on each one, considering how to best meet the responsibilities and whether any additional actions could be taken.

Prior to the workshop being delivered the facilitator will liaise with the business to gain an understanding of the current level of compliance relating to the WHS due diligence and may require relevant WHS documentation to be used during the workshop to enhance the workshop outcomes. Facilitators are SafeWork NSW approved trainers and WHS Management System Auditors who have experience across a broad range of industries.

Workshop Outline

1. Acquire and keep up to date knowledge of WHS matters – what the WHS Act requires and how individual officers are complying with this requirement/current legislation and industry issues/technical, situational and strategic knowledge? What else can be done? Penalties for breach of the duty to exercise due diligence by an officer.

2. Gain an understanding of the nature of the operations of the business or undertaking of the PCBU and generally the hazards and risks associated with those operations – how this is being addressed for each business unit, for contractors and other workers, for new processes, changes, modifications, new projects, etc. incl. psychological health? How else this could be done? What evaluation of adequate controls and residual risk is undertaken? What documentation is there that demonstrates due diligence activities by each individual officer?

3. Ensure the PCBU has available for use, and uses, appropriate resources and processes to eliminate or minimise risks to WHS from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business or undertaking โ€“ what is required for WHS and making decisions about procedures and resources/effective technology in place for WHS. How individual officers ensure the procedures and resources are used? What evidence is there of effective consultation to all workers and other duty holders? Is the role of the HSC maximised? How do officers check there is an effectively utilised WHSMS? How resource allocation to WHS matters (safe plant, maintenance, training, etc.) is scrutinised/considered? What other influences impact WHS e.g. financial, culture, business expectations, deadlines. Effective health and safety leadership model.

4. Ensure the PCBU has appropriate processes for receiving and considering information regarding incidents, hazards and risks and responding in a timely way to that information โ€“ including reporting of incidents and emerging hazards and risks, collection and analysis of data, benchmarking, review of safety plans, priorities, targets, achievements, weaknesses. What further action/consultation is then required? Ensuring reasonably practicable steps have been taken. What the officers understand of timely response and how their responses are documented and demonstrated?

5. Ensure that the PCBU has, and implements, processes for complying with any duty or obligation of the PCBU under the WHS Act โ€“ e.g. adequate processes for reporting notifiable incidents/adequate compliance with the duty to consult, cooperate and coordinate โ€“ how this is currently undertaken and whether this model is the most effective and meaningful option. Compliance with notices. Provision of training and instruction to workers, etc.

6. Verify the provision and use of the resources and processes referred to above โ€“ active verification methods such as inspections, testing of practices, auditing and board level reporting and how each officer can show due diligence of verification. Appraisal and review of the contribution of executives and managers to the performance of health and safety. Continual improvement reviews.
