Rail Safety Worker Medicals form an important part of the legislated health and fitness program, required for rail operators under the Rail Safety National Law (NSW) No 82a of 2012.

IOH Health’s Wollongong Clinic has doctors approved as Authorised Health Professionals (AHPs) to complete Rail Safety Worker Medicals following the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers (the Standard).

The three Rail Safety Worker Medicals are:

  • Rail Category 1:  A rail safety worker whose ill health may result in sudden incapacity or collapse leading to a serious incident affecting public safety or the rail network.
  • Rail Category 2: A rail safety workers who where sudden incapacity will not impact on the safety of the public or the rail network.
  • Rail Category 3: A rail safety workers who perform non-safety critical work and whose health and fitness does not impact directly on the rail network. However, they are required to protect their own safety and that of other rail workers.
