Our Commitment to Net Zero (1.5°C Pathway)
At IOH Health, we exist to empower people to realise and achieve their potential for life, work and play. Climate change will impact this goal, so we’re doing our part. We commit to a science-aligned 1.5°C pathway and to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 or sooner.
Although our footprint is relatively small as a service delivery business, we recognise our responsibility to measure, reduce and transparently report our impacts.
What “Net Zero” Means for IOH Health
Reduce first: Prioritise absolute emissions reductions across operations.
Then remove/neutralise: Use credible, high-quality carbon removal/offset projects only for the residual we cannot eliminate.
Align to science: Set targets consistent with a 1.5°C trajectory and review them regularly.
Our Targets
Net Zero across Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 by 2050 or sooner.
50% reduction in operational (Scope 1 & 2) emissions by 2030 from a 2024 baseline.
100% renewable electricity by 2027 for all offices under our control.
Electrify fleet and phase out fossil-fuel vehicles by 2030 (where operationally feasible).
(Scopes explained: Scope 1 = fuels we burn; Scope 2 = purchased electricity; Scope 3 = our value-chain such as business travel, waste and key suppliers.)
Where Our Emissions Come From
As a service organisation, our material sources are typically:
Purchased electricity in clinics/offices
Business travel (road and air)
Fleet vehicles (where applicable)
Waste and purchased goods/services
How We’ll Get There
Energy & Buildings
Move to 100% renewable electricity (green power and/or PPAs) by 2027
Improve efficiency: LED lighting, HVAC optimisation, smart controls
Transport & Travel
Transition fleet to EVs and use renewable charging
Avoid/replace travel with virtual first; rail over air where practical; economy-class policy for flights
Procurement & Waste
Favour lower-carbon suppliers and products; include emissions in procurement criteria
Reduce, reuse, recycle; phase out single-use items where possible
People & Practice
Staff engagement and training on sustainable choices
Embed climate considerations in everyday decisions and clinical operations where relevant
Why This Matters
Climate change affects physical and mental health, workplace safety and community wellbeing. By cutting emissions in line with 1.5°C, we protect the people and communities we serve.
Progress So Far
Baseline year set: FY2024
IOH Wollongong rooftop solar meeting consumption needs and feeding back to grid.
Fleet using smaller fuel efficient vehicles and EVs.
